Reiki is usually described as a healing art, not a self care practice. But any Reiki healer will tell you that daily self care and compassion is a key component of being an effective Reiki practitioner.
Like mindfulness, meditation and yoga, Reiki is a practice in which consistency is an ingredient for mastery. The results of a consistent Reiki practice are greater self-awareness, the ability to stay grounded in difficult situations, and of course, healing of a physical, emotional spiritual nature.
A Reiki self care routine looks something like this:
Start your day with a Reiki-infused body scan meditation and setting an intention for the day
Rise and prepare your morning meal, drawing Reiki symbols over it and intending that the food you consume will nourish you
Leaving your home to start your work day and grounding yourself with a quick Reiki symbol visualization and praticing self-regulation exercises to keep you grounded while commuting
Going through your day as usual, but with tools in your pocket to use whenever you have additional stressors – perhaps a crystal that you love to hold in your pocket, a tiny affirmation with a Reiki symbol drawn over it, taped to the bottom of an object in your work area, taking time to send Reiki energy to the plants that live in your space.
Coming home and rather than immediately opening the door to the fridge or pantry, you instead choose to take 5 minutes to ground yourself and give your mind body and spirit the chance to feel that you truly have transitioned. Then the madness can start!
Settling down for the night with a Reiki meditation and self-healing ritual.
Doesn’t that sound delicious? Of course, that is a lot to take on day after day. Most of us would be doing well to do half of these Reiki-minded self care rituals, but even so, your life will be richer for it.
